2026 Photography Trends I’m Loving

Every year brings new inspiration, but 2026 feels especially exciting for photography. From how we capture moments to how clients want to tell their stories, there’s a lot I’m seeing that I just can’t get enough of.
Here are the 2026 photography trends I’m loving right now, and why I think they’re worth paying attention to if you’re planning a session or running your own photography business.
1. Natural, Documentary Style Continues to Reign
People want honesty and emotion in their images more than ever. Posed perfection is still beautiful, but clients are craving real connection, movement, and genuine moments more and more.
I’m loving seeing photographers focus on:
• Candid smiles and laughter
• Soft interactions between couples and families
• Emotion over exact composition
For clients, this means photos that feel timeless. For photographers, it’s about guiding gently instead of controlling everything.
2. Editorial Meets Lifestyle
The line between editorial and lifestyle photography keeps blending. Clients want images that are beautiful, styled, and artsy, but still feel approachable and real.
Think fashion sensibility in a backyard, or magazine-worthy light in an everyday setting. It’s about creating something elevated, but personal. I am especially loving this one right now and my photographer brain is so excited to get creative this year.
3. More natural colors, gimme all the greens and golden light
People want that cozy, inviting vibe in their images, whether it’s for a sunset session or a lifestyle shoot at home, but also want it to look the way it really looked.
Less overly orange images, more true to the moment editing.
4. Real Moments Over Fake Smiles
Smaller, more intimate sessions are on the rise. Couples are eloping, families are opting for sessions that are fun. More themed casual shoots.
This trend gives photographers more freedom to focus on storytelling and connection rather than forcing perfect poses and fake smiles.
5. Video and Motion Are Growing Too
Clients want dynamic content that tells a story. For me I offer super 8 video as an optional add on or even as a solo package.
Even if you mainly shoot photos, incorporating small motion elements like gifs gives your work an edge and helps clients share their story more fully.
6. Film Film Film
Film continues to keep coming back and as a long time film lover, this one might just be my favorite. Clients wanting that nostalgia, the intentional moments, and something that lasts.
2026 Photography Trends - Final Thoughts
2026 is all about emotion, connection, authenticity, and creating real art. Whether you’re a client planning a shoot or a photographer figuring out your style, it's fun to lean into trends when they speak to you!
If you’re planning a session this year and want photos that capture your real story with a touch of editorial artsy magic, I’d love to connect and make it happen.
