What It’s Really Like and How to Plan One That Feels Right

If you’re dreaming about an elopement that feels quiet, meaningful, and a little off the beaten path, the Texas Hill Country is one of the most underrated places to do it.

Why couples love eloping here

A lot of couples choose the Hill Country because it’s easy in the best way.

You don’t need a complicated plan. You don’t need to hike for hours. You don’t need to stress over a million logistics. You can turn your elopement into a relaxed weekend. Sleep in a little. Get married. Go get a good meal after. Spend the rest of the day just being together.

It feels personal and low pressure, which is exactly what a lot of people want.

Best time of year to elope in the Hill Country

Timing matters, but there are good options almost year round!

Spring - March through early May can be beautiful with wildflowers, typically the best time for water features as well!

Fall - October through early December is a favorite. Cooler temperatures, great light, and warmer colors.

Summer - It’s hot for sure. If you choose summer, plan for early mornings or evening ceremonies. Perfect time if you want to be on the water, go swimming or float in one of the rivers.

Winter - Quiet and underrated. Fewer people, cozy vibes, and a slower pace if you’re okay with potential cooler weather!

Permits and choosing a location

This is one of the most common questions I get.

Some locations need permits. Some don’t. Some are public and busy. Others are quiet and feel more private. Theres amazing locations all over Texas!

I help my couples sort through all of this and find locations that fit what they’re looking for, whether that’s something super simple or something a little more tucked away.

The goal isn’t just a pretty spot. It’s a place where you feel comfortable and relaxed.

Things to do on your elopement day

Make it simple or make a whole day out of it

One of the best parts about eloping in the Texas Hill Country is that your day can look however you want it to. You can keep it short and sweet. You can turn it into a full day experience. Or you can do a mix of both.

The possibilities are endless.

Some couples want a quiet ceremony and then head to dinner. Others want to explore, move around, and make a whole day of it together. Both work beautifully here.

If you want something short and simple

A quiet ceremony at sunrise or sunset

A short walk to a scenic overlook

A few relaxed portraits

Then heading off to celebrate together

If you want to make a full day out of it

If you love the idea of slowing down and spending the whole day together, the Hill Country makes that easy. You can plan a few different activities. Move locations. Take breaks. Let the day take you anywhere. Some couples start slow and build into it. Others do the ceremony first and then explore. There’s no timeline you have to follow.

Elopement day activity ideas

Here are some easy, low pressure ideas that work really well in the Hill Country.

Getting coffee together in the morning

Sharing a picnic by the river

Hiking a short trail or walking through wildflowers

Stopping at a local winery or brewery

Swimming or dipping your feet in the river

Driving back roads and pulling over when something catches your eye

Watching the sunset from a quiet overlook

Having a private dinner or campfire to end the day

Horse riding together at a local ranch

You can also mix things up. Do something calm, then something adventurous, then something cozy. It’s your day!

I help my couples think through this part of the day so it never feels rushed or overwhelming. Whether you want one location or a handful of small moments spread throughout the day, we build a plan that feels natural and can always go with the flow and make changes as it goes too!
